By recognising gaps in local service provision, The Care Society have responded by providing innovative and effective service solutions to fit the needs of the diverse range of people we work with and the persistent problems they encounter.
The Night Shelter
The Night Shelter was originally set-up to provide a winter only provision, however due to the increased demand for this service, and securing extra funding, from 2003 onwards we have successfully run an all year round Night Shelter facility. From its humble beginnings, the Night Shelter now boasts 24 hour wardened accommodation County wide, including on-call ‘back-up’ support.
Emergency Accommodation Scheme
We manage an expanding portfolio of emergency accommodation units across the County on behalf of the Local Authority and other agencies. People referred to us by the Housing Department with ‘priority’ housing needs are accommodated temporarily within these properties and are able to access our other services for any help they may require.
Accommodation Officer Scheme
There is a shortage of affordable housing in Ceredigion and the local private rented sector offers a valuable resource to increase housing options for those in need. This scheme works closely with private landlords and the Local Authority to increase accommodation options in the private rented sector. Through this initiative we have expanded our ‘leased and managed’ property portfolio within this sector.Through this scheme we have been able to supply quality, suitable and affordable housing, which has assisted us in reaching our charitable objectives to support the most vulnerable members of our communities.
The Bond scheme has been developed with assistance from The Welsh Government, the Local Authority and the Probation Service. The Care Society has successfully assisted people into accessing and sustaining tenancies. By offering bond guarantees to landlords, we are able to facilitate a tenancy for someone who would otherwise not be able to afford the initial payments necessary (i.e. rent deposits and rent advances). Thus we can engage with people before they become homeless, enabling and empowering people to manage sustainable tenancies of their own.
The Care Society are the largest support provider in Ceredigion. We provide housing and tenancy related support either from our offices or in peoples’ homes. We also provide immediate financial crisis resolution help and advice when required through our support offices. Our main aim through this service is to help people resolve problems and live successfully in settled accommodation within the community, until they are able to live independently with no need for continuing support.
Young People’s Project
The Care Society manage this care leavers project on behalf of Social Services. It provides supported accommodation specifically tailored to the needs of the resident young persons. They receive one to one practical support, advice and help in addressing their individual needs.
Educational and Awareness Programme
The Care Society runs an Educational Homelessness Awareness Programme, delivering presentations to young people in schools or community groups/clubs and enabling them to become more informed about homelessness, how young people can become homeless and what services are available to help them.
